Physical ExamAt a minimum, but most importantly, your pet needs an annual physical exam. For senior pets, pets with chronic health issues, or those on long-term medications we recommend physicals twice yearly. Remember, pets age at a faster rate than humans (see age comparison chart) so their health can undergo significant changes in a shorter period of time. Do not underestimate the power of a good physical exam! It can provide valuable information leading to the diagnosis of a wide variety of health problems or diseases.

VaccinationYou can have your pet vaccinated with confidence at Cherry Point, knowing our veterinarians have followed the research closely and adjusted our guidelines accordingly. These recommendations may vary for your pet and checking his/her titers (the level of immunity in their blood) is always an option. We have bundled our vaccine protocol in with annual exams to reduce the cost of pet ownership and increase life longevity. Please call our office for details!

SurgeryOur office is equipped with a complete surgical suite. We use the most up-to-date anesthetic procedures and equipment to decrease the stress of surgery on your pet. Our anesthetic protocol is enhanced by our use of monitoring equipment including respiratory and constant EKG evaluation during surgery. The heated surgery table helps decrease recovery time while increasing overall post-operative recovery and comfort. To further facilitate the healing process, your pet will receive a Cold Laser Therapy to the surgery site while in recovery. Lastly, no patient is left unattended by a veterinary technician at any time during a procedure.
We offer surgery at a multitude of levels, from preventive spay and neuters, to complicated soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. We will consult with our clients concerning their pets’ needs and also offer referral services when surgery needs require more intensive therapies. |
Dental HealthDental disease is one of the leading causes of declining health in dogs and cats. The bacteria found in pets’ mouths can travel through their bloodstream and cause multiple organ infections. Dental infections have been linked to diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and other life threatening conditions. What’s important to remember is that medical conditions caused by dental disease are preventable!
Dental cleanings are same day procedures and the type of anesthesia used will depend on your pet’s health and medical history. |
GroomingCherry Point is proud to have Eva Smith as our full time groomer. Eva has been grooming pets professionally since 1997. Her loving touch and great animal rapport make her one of the most highly sought after professionals in the area.
Whatever your pet’s grooming needs may be, whether a breed standard or lifestyle cut, Eva can do it. She specializes in Schnauzer cuts and hand scissoring. Communication and feedback is not only encouraged, but necessary in order to give your pet the cut you have envisioned. Our grooming facility is equipped with a HydroSurge Pet Bathing system, which means your dog is getting more than just a bath. This system injects air into the soapy water, giving a gentle massage while getting your pet cleaner than ever. With every professional grooming your pet also receives a complimentary nail trim and anal gland expression. For a small additional fee, your pet’s nails can be filed smooth, eliminating edges left by traditional pedicures. |
BoardingWe are very fortunate to have a large amount of outdoor space in our kennels. Because of that, our boarders are able to run and actually get some exercise when we let them out. Every dog is let outside individually twice a day while our caring staff tidies their “house” and prepares their meals as instructed. Our yards are enclosed by 6-foot fences with a security feature at the top, allowing your pet to run and play, unrestrained by a leash. For those who need even more exercise, or just want to enjoy some extra fresh air, additional mid-day walks are an option for an additional fee. Boarders can be dropped off and picked up during normal business hours. For our client’s convenience, we provide a Sunday pickup service from 5:00pm-6:00pm for an additional fee.

DiagnosticNot only are we able to do in house labwork, but we also have two different outside labs that pick up samples daily. This allows quick return of results to help insure the quickest diagnosis possible. When evaluating blood and urine samples, we look at many of the same values a human doctor does- although the normal levels can vary. Among other things, examination of blood samples can tell us if your pet is dehydrated, anemic, has problems clotting, has an infection, if their organs are functioning normally, as well as testing for many specific disease processes.

Cold Laser TherapyCherry Point now offers a non-invasive, surgery-free, drug-free option for pain relief as well as catalyst for healing: Cold Laser Therapy! For over 30 years the technology has been improved and modified to extend the most benefit for patient reduction of pain, reduced inflammation, increased range of motion, improved mobility and faster recovery from injury.
Treatments vary in length depending on each pet’s need and most can be conducted during a normal office visit. However, some pets may have multiple areas that will require treatment and may necessitate the need for your pet to be dropped off at the clinic. Multiple administrations of the cold laser therapy will be required within the first few weeks and then will continue further apart until the optimum benefit has been maintained. One of our doctors will discuss the treatment regimen and options with you at your initial evaluation. |
Pharmacy & DietOur hospital has an in-house pharmacy to fulfill all of our patients medical needs. We can have your animals prescription ready exponentially quicker than other outside pharmacies, as our staff understand your time is valuable.
We also stock a vast majority of Science Diet & Purina prescription diets. Our doctors highly recommend both brands, as the prescription foods are specifically formulated for specific animal health problems. |
RadiologyIn use for approximately two years, our digital x-ray equipment has greatly improved not only the quality of our images, but the ease with which they’re developed. Not just for finding broken bones, x-rays (radiographs) can help the veterinarian diagnose or monitor many other types of conditions as well. They can be useful in diagnosing diseases of the heart and lungs, finding tumors, or counting how many puppies or kittens are in a litter! To determine if a pet has an obstruction, we often use a contrast medium, called barium, to more clearly view the intestines and stomach.
|
UltrasonographyUltrasound is the use of sound waves to create a non-invasive look at the internal organs of our patients. We are very proud of the number of referrals we receive from area veterinarians requesting Dr. Cherry perform an ultrasound. If an x-ray is a photograph of what’s happening inside your pet, then think of an ultrasound as a movie! An ultrasound can give a more complete picture of internal organs such as spleen, liver, and kidneys.

Parasite PreventionAnyone who has ever had a problem with fleas in their home can tell you it’s much easier, and more cost effective, to prevent an infestation than to try to get rid of one! The same is true of all parasites! Your pet’s environment and lifestyle will determine how often we recommend checking a stool sample for intestinal parasites, but annual heartworm testing and year-round preventatives are recommended across the board. Heartworm and parasite preventative is easily combined into one monthly in-home treatment and the staff will gladly recommend the best product for your pet.
